| Jem Cassar-Daley graces the Brisbane music scene in 2021 with her stellar vocals and captivating performances. Still in the early days of her solo career, the 20-year-old singer-songwriter is already creating the standard of art that can only see her flourish. Her debut single “Letting Go” is our first taste of what’s to come, and it’s out July 23rd.
The track was both written and recorded with Garret Kato in Ocean Shores, NSW. As Jem says, “I wrote the song with Garrett in his studio over two sessions. I walked into the first session with an open mind and no particular idea of what I wanted to write about. We started jamming on the guitar and keys and the song started to take shape from there!” “This song to me is all about learning how to let go of negative thoughts and feelings of self- doubt. Whether its work-related, a relationship or waking up anxious after a big night, most of us know the feeling far too well. Garrett and I wanted to make this song quite subjective and not too specific, so everyone can relate it to their own narrative. ‘Letting Go’ also touches on having a long lost lover, friend or family member that you finally reconnect with and how they have helped through difficult times. It’s about personal growth, change, and appreciation for the ones around you,” Jem says of the single. Jem showed a love of music from a young age and has been immersed in it since. Her talents in guitar, piano, singing and songwriting stem from a perfect union of classical training, a deep passion, and a musical environment. She’s since been equipped her with the industry skills and knowledge to go forth and follow the path set out for her. From country roots, Jem has come into her own as a contemporary indie-pop artist. Her world class sound is a unique combination that draws favourites like Missy Higgins, Phoebe Bridgers, Angus and Julia Stone, and Carole King. As imagined, the result is quite gorgeous! Jem’s live achievements already include her touring nationally with her dad, Troy Cassar-Daley, singing the National Anthem at the Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars, performing the Ekka two years running, appearing at numerous festivals, including Tamworth Country Music Fest, and playing an original at SBS’s nationally broadcasted NITV NAIDOC 2020 celebrations. Her early solo success has seen her play top notch Queensland venues like The Triffid and QPAC, and now she’s releasing her debut single “Letting Go”. |
