Today Karen Dorante spoke with Aunty Ruth Hegarty – Aboriginal elder, writer, activist, lecturer and traditional owner. Author of three books, one picked up the David Uniapon Award for unpublished manuscripts "Is That You Ruthie" an account of her life in the dormitory system in Cherbourg. The sequel Bittersweet Journey. Aunty Ruth spends her time travelling around Australia speaking at universities and schools about her experiences in the dorm. Recently elected on Qld Board of Education. In her spare time she writes and has recently published the story of Jack Moffat, a family friend who also experiences the dorm system in Cherbourg.
